About Create fillable PDF

A flat PDF only looks like a form: people have to print it or type on top of it. Adding real form fields lets anyone fill it in on screen, tab from one field to the next and save their answers. Fields are found from the blank lines and boxes on the page, named after their labels, and you can move, resize, rename or delete any of them, or set a field as required or multi-line.

Frequently asked questions

How are the fields found?+

Blank lines after a label ("Name: ______"), lines drawn for a signature, empty boxes, small squares and ☐ symbols, and the empty cells of tables become fields. Each one is named after its label, so the form reads well in any PDF reader.

Which field types can I add?+

Text fields (one line or several), checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns and signature fields. Choose a type in the bar above the page, then click or drag where it should go.

Will the form work in Adobe Reader and on phones?+

Yes. The fields are standard PDF form fields, so they can be filled in Adobe Acrobat Reader, Apple Preview, Chrome, Edge and most phone apps.

Can I make a scanned form fillable?+

Yes, by hand. Detection reads the lines and text drawn in the PDF, which a scan does not have, so choose Text or Checkbox and click where each answer goes.

Are my files uploaded?+

No. The PDF is read and edited in your browser, so it never leaves your device.
